After 17 Years, Tea Leoni And David Duchovny Quietly Divorce

Nobody can say David Duchovny and Tea Leoni didn't try.

Duchovny, whom Baton Rouge readers will remember from "The X-Files" and "Californication," and Leoni, the star of "Deep Impact" and "Spanglish," were married for 17 years -- practically an eternity in Hollywood.

By all accounts, it wasn't an easy marriage. Duchovny went to rehab, reportedly both for substance abuse, and is widely reported to have committed infidelity.

Even so, the two stuck it out for a long time, working on their marriage with therapists and helping each other through tough times. They separated twice, once in 2008 and 2011, but reconciled each time.

At some point, though, enough was enough. It was learned in mid-August that the two had quietly divorced in June.

The two actors settled the terms of their divorce amicably. Leoni will have primary physical custody of their two children, a 12-year-old son and 15-year-old daughter. Duchovny will pay Leoni an estimated $48,333 a month in spousal and child support.

As a Baton Rouge divorce lawyer, I couldn't help but notice that Leoni and Duchovny separate calmly and, apparently, gently, even though their marriage was rocky at times. I hope my readers see that as proof that not all divorces are nasty, drawn-out affairs. In fact, I work with many clients who divorce politely, calmly and with dignity.
